Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 2 cups hash browns (frozen or freshly grated)
  • 1 cup shredded Irish cheddar cheese
  • 2 cups chopped cabbage
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
Optional Garnish
  • Chopped green onions for garnish Optional but recommended

Method

Preparation
  1. Start by chopping the cabbage and onion. Having everything ready to go will streamline your cooking process.
  2. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
  3. Add the chopped onion to the skillet and sauté until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Stir in the hash browns, pressing them down slightly. Let them cook undisturbed for about 5-7 minutes until they’re golden brown on one side.
  5. Add the chopped cabbage to the skillet. Season with salt and pepper. Stir everything together gently, and allow it to cook for another 5-7 minutes.
  6. Sprinkle the shredded Irish cheddar over the top. Cover the skillet with a lid and let it simmer for an additional 3-4 minutes, allowing the cheese to melt beautifully.
  7. Once the cheese is melted and bubbling, remove the skillet from the heat. Garnish with chopped green onions if desired.
  8. Share your masterpiece hot off the skillet, and enjoy!

Notes

For a healthier option, consider using sweet potatoes instead of regular hash browns. Ensure to cook ingredients slowly to avoid burning, and don't rush the melting of cheese for a gooey texture. Store leftovers in an airtight container for 3-5 days or freeze in portions.
