Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 pound ground halal beef Can be substituted with ground turkey or chicken.
  • 1/2 cup onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Avoid overcooking to prevent bitterness.
  • 1 can crushed tomatoes (28 ounces)
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • to taste salt and pepper
  • splash olive oil For cooking.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large saucepan, heat a splash of olive oil over medium heat.
  2. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Sauté for about 3-4 minutes, or until the onions become translucent and fragrant.
  3. Next, add the ground halal beef to the pan. Break it up with a wooden spoon and cook until browned, about 5-6 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Once the meat is browned, pour in the crushed tomatoes and tomato paste. Stir well to combine.
  5. Sprinkle in the dried oregano and basil, then season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  7. Taste the sauce and adjust the seasoning if necessary.
  8. Serve the Italian Meat Sauce over your favorite pasta, topped with freshly grated cheese or chopped herbs.
