Ingredients

For the Marinade
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce (ensure it's halal-certified)
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
Main Ingredients
  • 2 lbs flank steak Can substitute with skirt steak or chicken thighs.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, combine soy sauce, olive oil, minced garlic, balsamic vinegar, black pepper, onion powder, and dried thyme to create the marinade.
  2. Place the flank steak in a resealable plastic bag or a shallow dish. Pour the marinade over the steak, ensuring it's coated all around. Seal the bag or cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
Cooking
  1. Preheat your grill to medium-high heat.
  2. Remove the steak from the marinade, letting excess liquid drip off. Place it on the grill and cook for about 5-7 minutes per side, depending on your desired level of doneness.
  3. Transfer the grilled steak to a cutting board and cover it with foil. Allow it to rest for about 10 minutes.
  4. Slice the steak against the grain into thin strips and serve it with your choice of toppings or side dishes.

Notes

Marinating overnight is best for maximum flavor. Avoid overcooking to ensure a tender texture. Resting the steak post-grilling is crucial.
